Fawnskin

4 Nymphs from Literary Nymphs

Fawnskin is the first release in a new series by authors A. J. Llewellyn & D. J. Manly.

It’s an unusual and intriguing story that starts off normally when Knox arrives in Fawnskin looking for a job but it turns into something else, rather quickly. In the first three chapters, there are so many odd characters and goings-on introduced, I didn’t know what to think. This is particularly true of the previously unknown to me orthodox Jewish custom of shomerim; the guardians of the souls…those individuals who sit with a deceased body to protect the soul from wandering away, and turning to an evil spirit. Why Knox would even think of applying for this strange job is beyond me, but it is a great plot hook.

While many of the strange and secretive occurrences in town are solved before the end, many others are left hanging, to be dealt with in future releases. I admit it. There were more than a few things going on that left me with questions and the feeling of being a little disjointed, but it didn’t interfere with my enjoyment. Rather, it made me want to know more about the town; its citizens, Rallus, Knox and the wandering spirit of Harold and what he wanted. I’m looking forward to the next release in the world of Fawnskin and its strangely endearing inhabitants.
